28^ TRANSCAVALLO - WORLD CUP ISMF
Sporting traditions run deep in the Alpago, and the shape of its mountains makes it ideal for ski mountaineering. The Transcavallo classical technique ski mountaineering contest, after a number of editions of hard work, has carved out an important place for itself on the world ski mountaineering scene. In 2004 it hosted the first trial of the first edition of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup. All efforts of the organizing committee have been rewarded with the award of the European Championships which held in Alpago between 19th and 24th February 2009.
In 2011, after a year of absence from international competitions, the World Cup race will take place on the snow reflected on the lake of Santa Croce. This sport event will bring to the Veneto Region and to the Province of Belluno around four hundred athletes from twenty countries who will compete to win the World Cup points.
The Organizing Committee, as well as guaranteeing an event which will bring together the very top ski mountaineers – only athletes chosen by their national teams can take part - aims to bring greater visibility to an area that has been convinced for many years now of the value of this fascinating winter sport. For a whole week, Tambre, the event's headquarters, will come alive with an atmosphere of healthy fun and top international sport. On Sunday morning will start the 28th edition of Transcavallo. The athletes who take part of this competition have to be members of FISI or similar foreign federations. All those who venture up to the peak of Mount Guslon to watch the racers will receive a free ski mountaineering technical gadget.
GUSLON FREE DOWNHILL
During the World Cup 2011, exactly on Sunday 6th February, there will be a completely new side event, as follows: while the Transcavallo World Cup will go on , an helicopter will bring up to the top of Mount Guslon 6 athletes (2 ski mountaineers, 2 downhill skiers and 2 freeriders). The formula is simple: the winner will be the one who crosses the finish line first with no directional port, no rules, only the ideal line to follow in his mind to win this exciting challenge.
These 6 athletes, all professionals, will be invited by the Organizing Committee.
